Evaporator Coils Definition
An evaporator coil is a device that is used to cool down your hot water tank and the pipes that run from there. It is in the tank of your water heater and it does this by sucking in cool air. The reason you have to have an evaporator coil in your tank is because it cools down the water so that it does not boil over. Since it takes in the cool air from outside, this cool air is what you get when you turn on the faucet to your water heater.
Now you may be wondering how this device actually works to cool your hot water tank. It works the same way that your air conditioner works. You can’t just put the air conditioner on all year round, you have to set the temperature inside that unit so that it does not rise to dangerous levels. When you have an evaporator coil in your water heater, you know exactly where the temperature needs to be placed in your water heater so that it does not exceed that point.
